My name is Michaël Huijbrechtse, I live in beautiful Almelo and work for the Ministry of Defence. I came into contact with Krav Maga while on vacation. After returning from the holidays, I was so curious that I went to the nearest school for a trial lesson. This has resulted in me being left with - as they call it - the “Krav virus”. What particularly appeals to me within Krav Maga is that anyone can practice it and that you have a good mindset and perseverance.
When my lead instructor Michael Dikmans asked if I wanted to become an instructor, I seized this opportunity with both hands. As a result, I was allowed to follow the instructor training (CIC). After 180 hours of blasting, I successfully completed this in April 2018. This CIC was led by the following GITs: Israel Cohen, Israel Tamir and Tamir Gilad. Since then I have taught classes at Xcellent Defense in Deventer and Enschede together with my lead instructor Michael Dikmans. As of September 2019, I and my wife are the proud owners of our own kravmaga school.

My name is Ilona Huijbrechtse. I live in Almelo and am married to Michaël Huijbrechtse.
A few years ago my colleague challenged me to join a Krav Maga training. Until now I had never heard of Krav Maga and I could be found about 3 times a week in the gym where I mainly followed body combat. I was very curious about the lesson but had no plans to follow another sport. I thought the lesson was super cool and immediately felt at ease among the other kravists. No rooster behaviour, everyone is equal and was immediately included in the group. I remember well that after the lesson I drove full of adrenaline in the car from Enschede to Almelo and that I felt even more energetic than before I started the lesson. Without a doubt, I canceled my 11-year subscription to the gym that week.
After training for a while, my lead instructor at the time approached me if I wanted to think about whether it was something for me to also become an instructor. I thought it was fantastic but said it might be too early for me and I had to think about it carefully. I am a perfectionist and thought that I first had to get a little higher in my levels to see how this went for me. I want to do things right. Half is not an option for me, then I'd rather not do it. After a year or two I was asked again by my trainer Michaël Huijbrechtse. This was the moment when I thought now I'm going for it. The passion was there from day 1 but I now know more about my own progress and have more experience.
What attracts me most about Krav Maga is that it is a system that changes your whole being in a positive way. I well remember a student who came across as very reserved, hesitant, insecure in her first lesson. After half a year you could see that she came out of her shell. She stepped into the lesson confidently and was able to defend herself well. I think this is powerful to see and that's why I wanted to become an instructor myself. This is what makes teaching fulfilling and this is why my passion for Krav Maga is so great.
On September 1, 2019 I started my own Krav Maga school in Almelo together with my husband "Krav Maga Twente". In January 2020 I successfully completed the CIC (Civilian Instuctor Couse) training.
I now teach within our company together with Michaël.
